Rainer Ehrt spent his childhood and youth in the Harz Mountains. He attended the “Eos Gerhart Hauptmann" in Wernigerode, today known as the “Landesgymnasium für Musik” des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt. After graduating from high school and finishing his service in the army, he studied industrial design for two semesters at the castle “Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle”. The subsequent art exchange on the subject of fine arts was preceded by a self-selected year of internship as a printer in Halle (Saale) and Leipzig, where he laid the foundation for his later work. From 1983 to 1988 he studied graphic design at the castle “Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle” (Saale). While studying, he developed a special passion for satirical-critical graphics, book art and illustration. Rainer Ehrt graduated in 1988 with Gerhard Voigt and Rainer Schade. Since 1984 he has been married to the designer and sculptor Julia Ehrt, née Kretzschmar, and resides in Kleinmachnow, near Berlin. Rainer Ehrt began as a graphic designer, illustrator and poster artist for the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam, Progreens Filmverleih and several Berlin publishing houses. At the same time he used free graphics in original graphic techniques: etching, screen printing and woodcut, and in 1993 he founded the “Ehrt” edition for bibliophile original graphic artists' books. In addition to the 13 original graphic artist books, he published the satirical illustrated book "Preubisches Panoptikum" at Espresso Verlag in 2001 and "Mozart 2006" at Kunstverlag Weingarten. He also participates in numerous cartoon books and anthologies.
