The illustrator Gijs Kast was born on December 30, 1983 in Amsterdam. His masterpiece is the book “Bohnhase”. This book is based on his life in the so-called "problem zone." According to the Dutch media, it was a pretty horrible situation. Gijs, on the other hand, saw the prosperity of the neighborhood. His mission was to illustrate the charm of the area. Some research among his neighbors showed him the undercover job market up there. All those guys seemed to have some kind of business. Mr. Harry was a plumber, Miss Annie knitted... That gathered all of his (functional) data and made a covert version of the Yellow Pages. From 2004 to 2008 he studied at the Eindhoven Design Academy, department of Humanities and Communication. In 2007 he interned at “Studio Boot’s Hertogenbosch” (Netherlands) and at “Pixelpunk Biel Bienne” in Switzerland. Gijs is currently in Istanbul. In the middle of society he is writing a new book, it is like an illustrated documentary about the Turkish people.
