Cristian Marcu was born on January 29, 1959 in Galati, Romania. After graduating from high school, he literally jumped into the offices of the “Animafilm” studio, the only Romanian animation studio in the communist era: dominated by the personality of director Ion Popescu-Gopo, awarded the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1956, making humor with a catalog of works that contain the story-board of an animated film. He got the job immediately and joined the team. He collaborated with director Zaharia Buzea, who was also a renowned cartoonist and children's book illustrator, and was drawn to the area of graphic satire. In addition to being an animator, Cristian Marcu began an intense career as a cartoonist in 1984 and quickly became noticed at the National Satirical Graphics Salons, where he won numerous awards, more than 40, of which eight are Great or First Places. Starting in 1985 he participated in numerous important international competitions and won 23 awards. He died in 2012.
