Şakir Gökçebağ was born in Denizli, Turkey in 1965. He received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D degrees from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University. Besides his exhibitions in Turkey, Şakir Gökçebağ participated in numerous international shows across Europe including Kunsthaus Biel, Switzerland; Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin; Arp Museum, Remagen; Sotheby’s, London; Kunstverein Pforzheim, Kunstverein Ludwigshafen, Museum Ritter; Stuttgart and various international art fairs. The artist, granted by German and Austrian governments for several times has also been honored with George Maciunas Prize, Wiesbaden; Leo Breuer Prize, Bonn; Markus Lüpertz Prize, Düsseldorf. since 2001 – Lives and works in Hamburg
