He was born on July 18, 1922 in Mostar. He finished high school in Sarajevo and studied at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb. Ismet Voljevica is one of the foremost caricatures of the former Yugoslavia. When he was a student he began to collaborate in the comics magazine "Kerempth" and later worked for "Crgu". He has worked uninterruptedly for 39 full years publishing in different newspapers and magazines. He won the Grand Prix of the Montreal World Cartoon Festival in 1974 and three prizes from the Association of Croatian Journalists in 1950, 1965 and 1967, he also won the "Otokar Kersovani" (Life's Work) prize in 1980. In 2004 he received the Miaden Basic Bibi award for development from the Croatian Cartoon Association (DHK), of which he has been a member since 1985. Ismet Voljevica died in 2008 in Zagreb after a long illness
