Istvan Kelemen was born on June 26, 1957 in Baja, Hungary. The first caricatures of him appeared around 1977 in the magazines "Nimrod", "Magyar lfjusag" and "Magyar Horgasz". Later he obtained regular contracts with various newspapers and magazines, including science fiction, economics, propaganda and commerce. Istvan Kelemen graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Crafts in 1989, majoring in film and video animation. His animation "Robinsonade" was widely screened in Hungary. He was also commissioned for the first time to illustrate books by the Mora publishing house and obtained the first outstanding awards for his illustrations for “Europa Publishing Company”. He has currently illustrated more than 100 books, mainly youth, humorous and satirical. He presented his artworks in solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. In the last three years he participated in Hungarian and international cartoon competitions and won numerous awards: • Second place - Cyprus 2008 • Third place: Vianden, Luxembourg - 2009 • Audience Award – Germany - 2010 • Diploma – Bulgaria - 2010 • Finalist - China - 2011 • Best digital cartoon — Italy - 2012 • Cava Award – Humor to Gallarate - Italy - 2012 He is often invited to be a member of juries of international cartoon competitions such as in Hungary 2008-2013, Germany 2011 and Slovakia 2012-2013. Istvan Kelemen has organized several international cartoon competitions in Hungary: First and Sixth Baja Cartoon Competition – 2008 and 2013, First and Second Selective Cartoon Competition – 2010-2012, Axial Cartoon Competition – 2012 and Ice Hockey Cartoons - 2013. In the last fifteen years he has energized the social life of his hometown by editing and publishing different articles. In addition, he is a member of the Arts Fund, the Hungarian Association of Fine and Applied Arts and the Hungarian Association of Journalists. He lives and works in Baja, Hungary.
