Florian Doru Crihana was born on April 7, 1958 in Galati, Romania. He graduated from the Galati Institute of Naval Architecture. In 1985 he debuted in the cartoon competitions at the “Summer Show” in Braila, Romania. In 1986 he made his press debut in the magazine “Rebus”. In 1989 he won the first international awards, an Honorable Mention at the Aydin Dogan Competition in Ankara, Turkey and the Grand Prix in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. He has been a professional cartoonist since 1990 when he left his job as an engineer and dedicated himself to caricature and painting. That same year he met Dieter Burkamp, journalist, collector and exhibition organizer. They became friends and collaborated for many years. In Germany, Burkamp organized solo exhibitions for Crihana in Sennestadt, Lemgo, Celle, Goslar and Oerlinghausen. Dieter and Gisela Burkamp arranged for their works to be exhibited near famous artists of all time such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dab, Gustave Doré, William Hogarth and also near artists who changed the history of cartoons such as Andrd Frangois, Loriot, Ronald Searle , Ralf Steadman, A. Paul Weber, Sempd, Roland Toper, Adolf Born and others at the Wilhelm Busch Museum in Hannover, the Monchehaus Museum in Goslar and the Palace Museum in Bad Pyrmont. In 2007 he became a member of the UAP, the Union of Romanian Artists. In 2009 Dieter Burkamp published the monograph "Florian Doru Crihana Satirische ldyllen” in Kerber Art. Crihana is the winner of more than 70 international awards, many members of juries and holder of numerous honorary distinctions. In addition, he had solo exhibitions at the Cartoon Museum in Warsaw, Poland, the House of Humor and Satire Gabrovo (Bulgaria), Bruder Grimm Haus Steinau (Germany), the European Cartoon Center (Kruishoutem, Belgium), the Sapienza Università di Roma, Legnica Art Gallery (Poland), Bruges City Hall (Belgium) and many more.
