Ilja Bereznickas was born on January 1, 1948 in Vilnius, Lithuania. She is a Lithuanian animator, illustrator, scriptwriter and caricaturist. In 1970 she graduated in architecture from the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute. In 1985 she graduated from the Graduate School of Screenwriters and Film Directors in Moscow, Russia (class of Fyodor Khitruk and Yuri Norstein). Since 1985 she has, intermittently, worked at the Lithuanian National Film Studio, as a director, artist and animator. Since 1990 she has worked in Norway and the United States producing and creating animated television advertisements, short and feature-length animated films, and illustrating children's books. In 2002 she started and became director of the Animation Program at the Vilnius Art Academy as part of the Faculty of Photography and Multimedia Art. In 2003 until 2004 she taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Throughout her life she created many illustrated books and cartoons. Since 1973 she participates in cartoon exhibitions around the world. She held solo exhibitions in Vilnius (1980, 1997, 2005) and abroad.
