He was born in 1956 in the city of Toronto. He graduated from Toronto's Ontario College of Art in 1978. He received an honorary doctorate from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2010, an honorary doctorate from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2015, and also a Ph.D. Honoris Causa from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, and received his second Honorary Doctorate in Boston in the spring of 2015. Anita has lived in London, New York and Toronto, contributing to magazines and working for design firms, book publishers and advertising agencies in Germany, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Canada, South Africa, the Netherlands, Portugal, France and England. She has been published regularly in “Time” magazine, “The New Yorker”, “GQ”, “The New York Times”, “Sony Music” and many others. From 1988 to 1990 she was one of two artists chosen by Rolling Stone magazine to produce an illustrated monthly flyer of Rock 'n Roll History. Articles about his work have appeared in the magazines “Graphis” and “Novumgebrauchs grafik” (Switzerland), “Communication Arts” and “Step by Step” (United States), “Idea”, “Illustration and Creation” (Japan), “ Applied Arts” and “Nuvo” (Canada) and “The Design Journal” (Korea). She has produced covers for many magazines including “New Yorker”, “Sports Illustrated”, “Time Magazine”, “Newsweek Magazine”, “Atlantic Monthly” and “The New York Times Magazine”. Her works are in the permanent collections of the Library of Congress, the Canadian Archives in Ottawa, and the Musée Militaire de France in Paris.
