Ares

Ares was born in Havana in 1963. He studied medicine and graduated in 1987, he also studied psychiatry, graduating in 1993. The first cartoon of him was published in 1984. Ares has done works in oil and animated films. He currently works in Havana as a freelance cartoonist and illustrator (mainly of children's books). His works have been published throughout the world, he has won 133 international awards and has published twenty-two books. Likewise, he has illustrated more than eighty books and has worked on television and film, some of his work being used to make animated short films (Filminutos). In 1994, Ares was nominated by the magazine "Witty World" of the United States, to be included in the list of the best cartoonists in the world. His name is included in the survey of the Twenty Most Outstanding Cuban Cartoonists of the 20th Century. In 2002, Ares received the National Culture Medal from the Minister of Culture of Cuba.
