Zorikto Dorzhiev has become one of Russia's most acclaimed young artists, with his work exhibited in 2008 at the Council of Europe and the Beijing Olympics, and his recent “Steppe Story” series on view for two months at the Russian Museum of Saint Petersburg in 2009. With precise drawing and vivid colors, Zorikto shows subtle humor and a gift for painting. The Buryat nomadic life is the main theme of it. For Zorikto, “a nomad is an artist, a poet, a philosopher and, often, a loner.” He is equally comfortable portraying or drawing warriors on horseback, evoking the Mongolian ancestors of the Buryats. Zorikto worked as a set designer for the successful film Mongol, by Sergei Bodrov, and illustrated “The Cruel Age”, by Isay Kalashnikov; He also designs traditional style Buryat headdresses.
