Visual art in the contemporary world

Visual art in the contemporary world

The contemporary world is multifaceted, complex and controversial. Some theorists call it Post-Modernity, others call it Late Modernity, and still others call it Neomodernity. In art, as in other fields, there is already talk of Hypermodernity. Some still believe that we are in full Modernity. There are several studies on the names of the current moment. It is in the midst of this plurality of positions, ideas and facts that the contemporary world is being constituted and in it the artist and art are inserted. In this text, we aim to make a specific cut of contemporary visual art linked to the current context and how some broader issues of the contemporary world appear in the characteristics of art; how current thoughts reflect and interfere in the process of artistic creation and enjoyment. The current characteristics and thoughts that we address when contextualizing art in the current world are: the dissolution of great narratives; culture; identity; the inclusion of differences; globalization; fragmentation and ephemerality.
