Characteristics of muralism

o establish the meaning of the term muralism, it is necessary, first of all, to discover its etymological origin. Specifically, it comes from Latin. It is exactly the result of the sum of the following lexical components:

-The noun “murus”, which means “exterior wall”.

-The suffix “-al”, which is used to indicate “relative to”.

-The suffix “-ismo”, which can be translated as “system” or “activity”.

Muralism is the name given to the creation of mural paintings: that is, works that are made along a wall or wall. The term refers to this type of art; to the knowledge and skills that are needed to develop it; and to the movement that arose around it. It must be established that it indicates that muralism works must be based on several clearly defined pillars:

-Polyangularity, which means that on the same plane there are different sizes and points of view.

-It must capture a story.

-Monumentality, which means that they have to be carried out on walls of a certain size and with specific characteristics in terms of composition.

-As a general rule, they are very colourful. This is considered to mean that they not only attract people's attention but also awaken emotions.

There are various types of mural techniques. However, among the most significant we can highlight some such as sculptural relief, tesserae, ceramic murals and mural painting.
