The Secretariats of Foreign Affairs and Culture announce that the exhibition “Extraordinary Textiles: Mexico” will be presented starting this January 25 at the Manuel António da Mota Foundation, located in Porto, Portugal,

The inauguration of the exhibition “Extraordinary Textiles: Mexico” in Porto began the celebrations for the 160 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Portugal.

This is an unprecedented exhibition, which exhibits 62 pieces that make up 40 traditional costumes and pieces, which integrate artistic, religious, social organization and connection with nature elements. These manifestations reflect the deep culture of indigenous peoples such as the Amuzgo, Triqui, Tacuate, Chinantec, Mazatec, Otomí, Nahua, Wixárika, Rarámuri, Seri, Tzotzil, Maya and Tepehuano.

This exhibition was presented with great success at the Casa de América Latina in Lisbon, between September and October 2023. Given the great attraction of the Portuguese people to Mexican culture, it was decided to extend the duration of the exhibition and present it in Porto, the second most important city in Portugal, so that the population of the north of the country knows and enjoys one of the deepest cultural expressions that our country has.

With the exhibition “Extraordinary Textiles: Mexico” the close ties that unite both nations are celebrated and the cultural presence of our country north of Portugal is strengthened, through one of the richest and most diverse artistic expressions.
