Abstract art emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a way to break away from the traditional representation of reality. Unlike figurative art, which seeks to imitate the visible world, abstract art uses shapes, colors, and lines to express emotions, concepts, and moods. Wassily Kandinsky, one of the pioneers, saw painting as a manifestation of the soul, while Piet Mondrian reduced reality to pure geometric shapes and primary colors. Over time, this movement evolved into different styles, from Jackson Pollock's abstract expressionism, with its "dripping" technique, to the serenity of Mark Rothko's large color fields. Today, abstract art remains a powerful tool for artistic and philosophical exploration.
