WHAT DO WE UNDERSTAND BY CONTEMPORARY ART?

The best art galleries in Mexico exhibit contemporary art, but do you know what this type of art means? , when we talk about contemporary art we are simply referring to the art of today. That is to say, a painting that is painted today, a photograph, a sculpture that is developed in the time we are living in, is understood as contemporary art.

Although over the years it has been understood or conceptualized in different ways, it is estimated that it was in the 1960s when so-called contemporary art began.

Within this we can highlight the taste for innovation in production, mixing new ideas to develop unique expressions. In such a way that we can locate techniques such as assembly, collage, animations, among others. All of them are the result of the desire to experiment, to gather new ideas.

On the other hand, within contemporary Latin American artists you can see the use of new materials. One of the great characteristics is the fact of using objects, the use of materials that at first glance seem useless for any use; however, they were essential elements for works of art.

In this way, over the years we have been able to see unique paintings, with materials that we never thought we would see on the canvas. This also applies to sculptures.

Likewise, the use given to color is particular, in the first instance it began to be used as a means to give reality to paintings and works of art. But contemporary artists go beyond that and use color in a risky way, what they seek is to experiment with themes, also textures. That is, they take the basic and conventional elements to another level, innovating, experimenting with new techniques, themes and styles.

The use of new techniques is also possible, contemporary art is not a game, within the curiosity and desire to break with tradition, there is always the interest in developing new techniques. This was precisely what founded the foundations of contemporary art.

The Second World War was over when a series of artistic movements and avant-gardes began that led to the development of new ways of understanding, seeing, making and living art. They were formed to be recognized as contemporary art.

In this way we can find expressions such as surrealism, abstract art, pop art, minimalism, to name just a few. That laid the foundations for what would be contemporary art.
