Art is the human ability to create

The Renaissance provided a change in the conceptual mentality of art by separating it from crafts and sciences. At the time poetry, for example, came to be considered art rather than a kind of philosophy or even prophecy. From then on, there was even an improvement in the artist's perception and social situation, as the European nobles and rich people sharpened their interest in beauty. Art consecrated itself as an object of aesthetic consumption for the nobility and the upper social classes.

Romanticism culminated in the 19th century with the idea that art emerges spontaneously from the individual, as the artistic work emerges from the artist's interior and from his own natural language. Sensitivity and fantasy are valued. Arhur Schopenhauer stated that art is a way of escape from man's own state of unhappiness, since art is the reconciliation between will and consciousness, between object and subject, reaching a state of contemplation, of happiness. Finally, art speaks the language of intuition, not reflection. It is a way of freeing oneself from the will, of going beyond the self.
The aestheticism of the late 19th century is a reaction to the materialism that came with the industrial revolution. Charles Baudelaire points out that beauty comes from passion and, as each individual has his own passion, he also has his own concept of beauty. For him, the artist is the hero of modernity, whose main quality is melancholy, which is the longing for ideal beauty.

In Brazil, between February 11 and 18, 1922, artists proposed a new vision of art in the light of an innovative aesthetic inspired by the European avant-garde, an event that, although born in São Paulo, became nationally known as the Week of Modern Art: an artistic cultural manifestation that gathered presentations of dances, sculptures, music, poetry and recitals. An action that impacted and transformed Brazilian modernist art. It was, without a doubt, an aesthetic emancipation sponsored by artists, writers, musicians and painters.

If for St. Thomas Aquinas art is the correct ordering of reason, for Pablo Picasso, art is the lie that helps us to see the truth. Both will be right. Perhaps, for this reason, the concept of art is accepted as encompassing all creations made by human beings to express their most sensitive vision of the world, whether real or imaginary. Through art, human beings express ideas, emotions, perceptions and sensations. Consequently, art liberates and emancipates.

Art encompasses architecture, cinema, dance, drawing, sculpture, photography, literature, music, painting, poetry. Nowadays, in the middle of the 21st century, even television, fashion, advertising and video games are considered by many to be artistic manifestations. According to René Huyghe, art and man are inseparable. There is no art without man, much less man without art. The isolated being or the civilization that does not reach art are threatened by a secret spiritual asphyxiation, by a moral disturbance. For Unesco, art is key to forming generations capable of reinventing the inherited world. It reinforces the vitality of cultural identities and promotes relationships with other communities.

Art is the human capacity for creation. It is the expression or application of creative skills and imagination to create works that are prized primarily for their beauty, intellect, or emotional power. Its results are obtained by different means. The art of cooking, of painting pictures, of graffiti, the plastic arts, the art of composing (poems and musical scores), engraving, book printing and even, linked to a more severe concept, means nowadays causes of great social revulsion, such as hunting and war, can be considered as art. Human beings and art are strictly connected. Art frees. And, currently, the art of living is becoming increasingly indispensable for human emancipation.
